New York Times roundup

The problem of 'light greens.' “There is a very common mind-set right now which holds that all that we’re going to need to do to avert the large-scale planetary catastrophes upon us is make slightly different shopping decisions." Ironic that the article's in the NYT "fashion and style" section?

A few good tips on how to reduce your carbon footprint
from the author of The Live Earth Global Warming Survival Handbook, the companion book to the Live Earth concert series.

Kristof explores the disasters facing Africa if global warming continues. Requires a NYT subscription or TimesSelect membership, unfortunately.

Op-ed: Al Gore pleads for the US to adopt carbon-reduction goals stricter than Kyoto. "If by the beginning of 2009, the United States already has in place a domestic regime to reduce global warming pollution, I have no doubt that when we give industry a goal and the tools and flexibility to sharply reduce carbon emissions, we can complete and ratify a new treaty quickly. It is, after all, a planetary emergency."

So the issue of growing desertification is worrying me (with Africa-related work, my views are a little distorted, perhaps); it's worrying me more so than other effects of Global Warming. Do you think you could do another post on it that highlights the geography and implications of climate change in Africa?
